Arithmetic Progression
An arithmetic progression is a sequence in which the difference between two consecutive terms is a constant. That constant is called the common difference of the progression. If $u_{1}, u_{2}, u_{3}, \ldots u_{n-1}, u_{n}$ is an A.P., then $u_{2}-u_{1}=u_{3}-u_{2}=\ldots=u_{n}-u_{n-1}=$ constant $u_{n}-u_{n-1}=d$ and $u_{n}=u_{n-1}+d$ where $\boldsymbol{d}$ is called the common difference. The $n^{\text {th }}$ term of an $A . P$ is given by $u_{n}=n^{\text {th }}$ term, $a=$ first term (or) $u_{1}$, $d=$ common difference $n=$ number of terms |
